Future Events (3rd Dec 2012)

Thursday 6th December 2012 - Annual General Meeting. - After the generally short business part of the AGM, we will welcome BOC chairman and NDOC member Renton Righelato with his talk "Bird Conservation in Ecuador". Meeting starts at 7:30pm in St Mary's Church Hall, Greenham.
Saturday 15th December 2012 - Stanpit Marsh, Christchurch. - A full day visit to this area of Christchurch Harbour for the high tide roost and hopefully some close up views of waders and Brent Geese. We could go on to Hengistbury Head after lunch. Meet at the Wharf at 8:30am (cars will be moved elsewhere if leaving them) or in the recreation ground carpark, on the right of the Ship in Distress pub on the Stanpit Road. (GR 195/SZ173926). Sunday 30th December 2012 - Post Christmas Airing! - Come and get some fresh air after all the festivities - meet at the Wharf at 9:30am when we'll check the bird guides to see where the best birds are locally on the day. Morning only. Leader - Lesley Staves
Saturday 12th January 2013 - Members Afternoon. - Our usual social meeting for tea and cakes and short talks by members. Those offering talks should contact Jim Burnett or John Swallow beforehand, and gifts of cakes etc for tea will be welcome at the hall on the day. Doors open at 2pm for a prompt start at 2:30pm. Sunday 20th January 2013 - Bury and Cow Down. - An afternoon stroll on the downs above West Ilsley lloking for wintering owls and raptors. Meet at 2pm in the car park at GR 174 / SU479841. Leader - tba
Saturday 26th January 2013 - Sheppy. - A full day visit to this winter hotspot in north Kent looking for raptors, owls and waders. Our last planned visit was cancelled due to heavy snow, so we'll hope for more promising weather this time! Meet at the Wharf at 8am, or at 10am at the entrance to the lane leading to RSPB Elmley. Saturday 9th February 2013 - Farmoor and/or Stanton Harcourt Pits. - A morning visit to Farmoor reservoir near Oxford for winter ducks, etc. followed by lunch (packed or at a pub) plus a look at the gravel pits around Stanton Harcourt, for those who would like to stay on. Meet at the Wharf at 9:30am or at Farmoor at 10am. (GR164/SP452061). Leader - Lesley Staves
Thursday 21st February 2013 - Indoor Meeting - "A Celebration of the Ordinary" - David Broadbent. - Our guest speaker David Broadbent, specialises in photographing common birds in new ways, and this talk should really be interesting and quite intriguing. Meeting starts at 7:30pm in St Mary's Church Hall, Greenham.
